The Hansen family has always been a central cast member in Discovery’s hit show ‘Deadliest Catch.’ However, you may notice that Edgar Hansen, Sig Hansen’s brother, is no longer a part of the show.
Learn what happened to him and what he is up to.
What happened to Edgar Hansen?
Something severe happened with Edgar Hansen a few years back. The 50-year-old was pleaded guilty in July 2018 for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl under a plea deal with Snohomish County Prosecutors in a way that he will face no jail time.
In return, for pleading guilty to fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation, he would receive a suspended jail sentence of 364 days but will have to pay $1,653 in court costs.
Edgar will also have to put himself through sexual deviancy evaluation and treatment and provide his DNA sample to authorities. The sexual assault of the teenage minor, referred simply as Jane Doe to protect her identity, took place in September 2017.
She later confessed about the assault to her therapist in October. Edgar Hansen, in pleading guilty, has also admitted to intentionally kissing and inappropriately touching the girl.
“I committed this assault for the purpose of my own sexual gratification,” Hansen wrote in his handwritten statement. “I am very sorry for that conduct and I have commenced treatment to ensure that nothing like this assault ever happens again.”
What is Edgar Hansen Doing Now?
Since his sexual allegations came to light, Edgar Hansen has been understandably absent from the reality series. He has also wholly vanquished from the public eyes, and even his Facebook page has remained inactive since 2018.
We also find many other fans wondering where he is now and what he is doing. “Whatever happened to Edgar Hansen? I know he had issues, but is he ok?” read a fans’ tweet.
However, many fans are happy that he has left the show and is away from the limelight since his controversy.
“Man am i so disappointed in that man. Can’t believe what he done, he was literally my favorite deck hand for over a decade. So for that to happen it feels like he betrayed all his fans on top of his own morals,” a fan on Reddit vented with a few people joining him in the rant in the comments section.
His older brother, Sig Hansen, is still the Captain of the Northwestern. And he has handled his brother and deck boss’s dismissal proficiently. Sig’s daughter and Edgar’s niece, Mandy Hansen, has also stepped up to her plate as Captain-in-training.
As Sig gets older and faces health problems, the possibility of him handing down the Captain’s hat to Mandy grows more imminent.
Edgar Hansen’s Other Tragedies.
Edgar Hansen taking up the plea deal came when the Hansen family was already going through many tragedies. It had only been two weeks since Sig Hansen himself received a 1-year deferred sentence and probation from the court for assaulting an Uber driver after getting drunk the year before.
Sig Hansen, at that time, was also in the midst of another scandalous case where his estranged daughter, Melissa Eckstrom, accused him of sexually abusing her when she was only a toddler while he was divorcing her mother around 30 years ago.
However, Hansen claimed that it was just a means for Melissa and his ex-wife to shake him down for some money.
Sig was able to fight the controversy to resume his role in the Discovery show. But his brother was guilty of a crime heinous enough to stay miles away from TV appearances.
