The quote that “The bigger they are, the harder they fall” seems to be true when we look at The Saga from the reality fishing series ‘Deadliest Catch.‘ While all the fishing vessels face considerable risks, including a chance of sinking, the Saga seems to run into the fatal possibility more often than most.
Did The Saga Sink?
The Saga has managed to survive by the skin of its teeth until now. However, in the newest ongoing season 17 of ‘Deadliest Catch,’ we have yet to spot it. Fans can only think the worst as they are beginning to worry that something terrible has happened to the boat.
The Saga will appear in Season 17.
Thankfully, we can inform you that the Saga is fine. Furthermore, it will be appearing later in season 17. The Saga has managed to keep us on the edge of our seats until now, so it wouldn’t be the same without it.
While the Saga has neither sunk nor has had anything wrong happen to it that would stop it from appearing in season 17, other fishing vessels haven’t been so lucky. F/V Scandies Rose from the show suffered a heartbreaking tragedy where it sunk and killed 5 of the 7 crew members aboard.
The Saga’s Close Encounters in the Past.
We understand why fans would think the worst for the Saga. It was a large boat that was 42 years old and has been being captained for a long time by relatively younger Captain Jake Anderson, who is 40.
He repurchased the boat in 2015 and has since had to make many renovations to keep it afloat. It wasn’t even that long ago that the Saga had a near-sinking experience. It was just last season in episode 19 that Jake and his crew needed to fix their rudder while they were in the middle of violent waters.
If the loose rudder fell out, the water would flood the vessel and likely cause it to sink. However, they were failing to steer the boat without fixing it and thus, took the risk. Similarly, one of the most challenging obstacles the Saga and Captain Jake faced when traveling through a False Pass strait.
It was an extremely narrow and shallow strait that Jake had to navigate through with limited power. Things could have quickly gone sideways, but Anderson could steer the boat either through his skills or luck.
Further Dangers.
Given the Saga’s magnetism to dangers, it will indeed be seeing a lot more risks in the ongoing season 17. It has managed to survive all the near-sinking until now, but will it be so lucky this season too.
We certainly hope that the Saga will give us another nail-biting survival story this year too.
